The Iroquois are the originators of the modern day game of Lacrosse. Shrouded in time, Lacrosse was played among the Confederacy long before the coming of the Europeans to the shores of North America. It can be said that when the Europeans first came to America, Lacrosse was one of the most popular and widespread games played across the continent and with many variations. The long stick game played internationally today belongs to the Iroquois.

      US - Southwest
Scheduled for August 2003, the Native American Basketball Invitational (NABI) Tournament is a four-day event that will be held at America West Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. The event is an opportunity to bring Native American male and female athletes who are currently playing at the high school level in the Southwest into contact with professional athletes, professional and college scouts, celebrities, Tribal leaders and the business community. But it is the hope that this event may provide a spark that ignites Native American youth to set their sights a little higher and making the most of their potential and to one day see a Native American youth reach the stars by walking onto the NBA or WNBA floor.
    Native Hockey Players

Why devote a page strictly to Native players? To many of us Native Americans-Canadians, hockey is a sport that we have grown up with. In Canada, hockey has become part of our culture. Just go to any reserve, and you will find a hockey rink, despite the economic situation. Anyone who plays hockey knows the benefits of participating in a team sport, and hockey is a very positive experience for those Natives who participate. Thus, I feel it is appropriate to dedicate a page to those Indians who have beat the odds and made it to the professional level.
